The Soviets in this movie are as stupid as the Russians of today in Ukraine.
Why stay at range on the crest of the hill and make use of your advantage in long range gunnery and no cover for the enemy when you can charge down into a mass of Molotov and satchel carrying suicide fanatics?

As I remember it was general Zhukov decision to cast the tanks without infantry cover against Japanese to prevent them to make a stronghold near the hill of Baintsagan. The Soviet lost ~96 tanks during that attack. The battlefield looked like industrial town.

Come on Tanker! It could have been a Russian Military Parade celebrating the glorious October Revolution!!!! The Japanese were right to be conflicted.


The thing with the Soviets and Russians whatever the context they always look for the solution that will bring them the most casualties and losses. It's a constant throughout their history. For them a miliary campaign without millions of casualties just doesn't feel right.
