Here's video from occupied Crimea, Kerch. Veterans of WW2 (they looks quite good for the 90 old ppl) had a line to get free food:
    - gruel (whatever)
    - vegetables
    - bread
    - sausage

I watched an excellent film - I think it's British - called Child 44 with Tom Hardy & Gary Oldman ( and other European stars) in the leading roles. It shows how grim life was in the Soviet Union in the last year of Stalin's life. I strongly recommend it! Well acted and looking very realistic.

    Yes, it is "Child 44"

Movie is abt. maniac who killed children. But as any Soviet human knows - there are no any maniacs in the USSR. Maniacs are only in the capitalist world, where the small bunch of capitalisten fiercely oppress poor proletarian.
And I have to say an afterwar life was decorated in a big manner.

I'd recommend to see movie "The Guard", then u'll see what was a life of the Soviet ppl, particulary in Ukraine before the WW2.

In Child44 they touched( too briefly unfortunately) on the Holomodor.

I also recommend The Circle with Robert Duval Playing Stalin. Based on a true story...

Dunno, I generally try to stay away from political discussions here as my views are not always compatible with the community's, but since I am a movie fan, I felt like I wanted to weigh in here - generally in the Croatian and some English-speaking press, Child 44 got pretty bad reviews, almost to the point of being anti-Russian propaganda, the characters almost being total stereotypes and such, and the story and time-frame they chose to set it in being somewhat symptomatic of current Western-Russian relations, so I chose not to watch it. An opinion also reinforced by the reviews and scores on RT, which is imo generally a more reliable indicator of a film's quality than IMDB...

I disagree .The film was not anti-Russian and personally I don't confuse Russians with communism. The Russians were the first victims of this evil system which killed way more of them than WW1 and WW2 combined did.

That  being said I agree that the characters could have been developed a bit better and given more depth. However the Stalin era even based on writings form dissidents and common people who fled the East Block was a terrible time for Russia and the people of the Soviet Union. Nobody can deny this. KapulA this is a free and democratic forum your views will not be derided or ridiculed and least of all by me.  I am not a paragon of truth or  the apostle of the side of light or anything like that. I have seen my share of propaganda films.

I guess "Anti-Russian" means "Anti-Soviet", USSR consisted of the 15 States. There is tradition (from Europe, USA)  name the USSR as Russia. This is not correct and always will lead to misunderstanding.
There are some photos from the Ukrainian town Galych (1927-1932).

IMHO I find RT to be horribly one sided in it's coverage.

    Edit;
Lol, I just realized you meant Rotten Tomatoes and not Russia Today.

    Why do u think so?
Let's count "president" of the USSR. It was founded in 1922.
Chairman of the SNK (Soviet Narodnykh Commisarov)
    1. Lenin (russian) 22-24
    2. Rykov (jewish) (24-30)
    3. Molotov (russian) (30-41)
    4. Stalin (georgian) (41-46)
    Soviet Ministrov USSR
    5. Stalin (georgian) (46-53)
    6. Malenkov (russian) (53-55)
    7. Bulganin (russian) (55-58)
    8. Khruschev (ukrainian) (58-64)
    9. Kosygin (russian) (64-80)
    10. Tikhonov (russian) (80-85)
    11. Ryghkov (russian) (85-91)
    12. Gorbachev (jewish) (91)

Yeap, Tanker, u're right. Mostly russian had the power in the USSR.

    PS
Russia had its name only in 1721. It was Moskovia before.

Gorbachev is not Jewish? He is part Ukrainian part Russian.

OK Jewish is not a nationality but a religion. Calling Jewish a nationality was the argument used by the Nazis to disenfranchise Germans and Austrian Jews by pretending they were a foreign group who were not really just Germans and Austrian of Jewish faith. There are Russian Jews, Ukrainian Jews etc...

Lenin was actually part German and part Kalmyk. Rykov is pure ethnic Russian from what I read.

Well the Armenians are fighting for their lives against the Azeris. Russia as a Christian country is their natural ally. Remember they were also victims of a genocide perpetrated by the Ottoman Turks who are ethnically cousins of the Azeris. This region is very complicated with the " the friend of my enemy is my friend..." very much the basic policy for all.
