I am posting because I am surprised that there is no thread regarding RSRO2, which is the only WWII Tank Sim with outstanding graphics and interacting with infantry, available in MP at this moment.

I was wondering if there was a particular reason.

Yes, there is. You are playing the same maps you play in MP against bots, and you can also play coop. The interior of Tanks are really nice!

here is a shortcut for pictures:

I have RO2 and RS which I got for free on Steam a few months ago. My understanding is the RO2 is not very popular.which why they gave the game for free one weekend back in May or June last year. They were trying to prop up the player base and populate the servers. It worked briefly and then they had to heavily populate the servers with bots in order to keep them running. Not a bad thing as it worked well with Battlefield 2 single player. RO2 faces stiff competitions in the shooters genre with the CoD games, BF3/4, Counterstrike, Insurgency, Arma 2 and 3, Sniper 3., Far Cry 3 /4 , Crysis 3, etc.. The animations are so-so , the graphics are fine, the maps are a mixed lot, the dialogues are nerve grating with clichés in fake accents. All in All I would give the game a 65/100 mark.

The SP is buggy and does not have much replayable value.

The MP is what is good. I personally prefer the maps of Rising Storm .If I have to die I'd rather die in a nice jungle or in a tropical setting with green, lush vegetation than in a ruined , snow covered factory... Laughing

Unfortunately because I have the free version of the game I am not allowed to gain XPs and other perks. So I am just a rifleman. It's not easy playing infantry but it can be fun at times. But I must say that I have BF4 now and I much prefer that game to RO2.

I wish Tripwire would remake Red Orchestra Ostfront 1941-45 with modern graphics and improved ballistics along the line of RO2 but with the SP maps and the tank play that made the first Red Orchestra such a classic.

Frinik so you never played armor only maps?

Did you download maps from the Steamwork?

I am thinking about Yakovleko which is a big armor map, and there are many others you can download from Steamwork for free!

did you play maps where you can see the pictures I posted above from Rising Storm Red Orchestra 2?

I didn't know there were armour only maps! I am playing with the vanilla maps except one which is user-made. OK I'll go to Steam and download the maps you are talking about. Thanks for the tip!

3 good maps for armor combat. There are more than 3, but the following struck me as good:
    TE_YAKOVLEVO_CA
    TE_SPARTANOVKA
    TE_GUMRAK

After playing them in the highest difficulty sim mode and if you can in MP (if you cant play with a friend in your crew, lock your tanks as you never know who could jump in), please share your impressions.

    Thanks

I'd like to ask - does gunsight reticle affect aiming or it's just a candy?

    Hi Lockie.

    Yes, it does.

Not only you need to dial the distance, but you also need to add the range!

In the 10th picture, starting counting on the first top left as the #1 (if you can blow it up), you will see a message on the top right hand side of the screen that GHWY killed  a PZIV at such distance. Then check the reticle on the same pic, that distance is dialed in + range.

Why would you have to dial in the distance and the range? Isn't that doing the same thing twice over? Distance is range.

Nope and I am just about to publish a book about distance and range in armor combat.

The name of the book is actually "Distance is not a range".

    Hi Lockie,

From picture 9 to picture 10 I did move the horizontal line. Which pictures are you referring to?

I actually posted the pics 9 and 10 at the bottom of that page with a higher resolution.

In SF, if u use the Panther, Su100, etc... which have canon shooting high velocity AP projectile with a flat trajectory up to a certain distance, you might not need to add range up to a certain distance.

It also depends of the distance of engagement, with a certain type of canon and a certain type of ammo.

I don't know what you do, and if you use always the same tank. After playing the same tank in the same game for so many hours you have you might be able to acquire a mental visual representation of the projectile flight from the ascending branch to the descending branch.

I personally calculate range like my life and my life crew depended on it, it allows to hit with the first shot. And some times you just don't have much time.

Then again look at those pictures:

As you can see the horizontal bare moved from 1,300 meters to 200 meters, and the game tells me that I destroyed a Pz IV at a distance of 177 meters.

May be the nature of your game does not allow to have access to the full steamworkshop. Or maybe you clicked a choice to only show new maps. Try again without the new maps choice only.

    Or Try those addresses:

    http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=35450&actualsort=trend&p=1

    http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=35450&actualsort=trend&p=2

    http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/browse/?appid=35450&actualsort=trend&p=3

    Gumrak comes with the game.

If you can't fully access steam workshop, look at the following addresses which are pics of the steamworkshop top page #1 and #2 where you can see 2 variants of the YAKOVLEVO map:

    http://www.4shared.com/photo/YHkYa2Mqba/Top_page_1_steamworkshop.html

    http://www.4shared.com/download/YHkYa2Mqba/Top_page_1_steamworkshop.jpg?lgfp=3000

    http://www.4shared.com/download/N13PXW08ba/Top_of_page_2_Steamworkshop.jpg?lgfp=3000

or connect to that server and download automatically all the maps:

    http://www.4shared.com/download/q4TJkodtce/rogame_2015-01-22_06-54-07-05.jpg?lgfp=3000

    http://www.4shared.com/download/pO9__rAqba/rogame_2015-01-22_06-57-40-21.jpg?lgfp=3000

That's all I can do to help, anything else would have to do with the settings of Steam.

Well, what is the difference? Are you saying that range is what is set in the reticle cross hairs and distance is the horizontal distance from your tank to the target?

It is above the target because of the recoil of the gun when I took the pic, if I would have waited to take the pic, the biggest part of the explosion would have disappeared! The target is the PZIV.

It is a T-34, there is a recoil, it is not shooting blanks!...There are also gun recoil on SF!...It all depends of the timing of when you take the pic. If you take the pic 2/10 of a seconds after you depressed the canon trigger, this is what you see.

Now, I don't take movies, I take pictures, I like them better.

In picture 9 you have the scale set at 1300m, in picture 10 it is set at 200m.

How did you estimate the distance to the target as 200m and thus move the horizontal line from 1300m to 200m?

I guess I'll answer my own question. Distance to target is estimated by using the scales provided on the gun sight or in the case of the T-34 the PT-4-7 commander's sight.

The gun elevation is then set by placing that estimated distance on the range scales in the gun sight (TMFD-7 for the T-34), using the correct information for the shell being used.

In summary you estimate distance and you set range. To say that you set distance+range is incorrect, as there is only one setting to be made.
