I don't know your computer's spec's... but you might want to give SF a try at a higher resolution. The modelling of the vehicles in SF are well done by the talented community of modders here. I find that a boost with the resolution brings out the some of the excellent detail of the vehicles in the game that the modders have placed into them.  And if it does not workout, you can always change it back. [Make copy of original file just in case.] Wink

    1. In the game options settings:

    Uncheck... "use desktop resolution"

    Check... "no video mode restrictions"

    2. In [data\k42\loc_rus\config\config.engcfg]  find the entry below and with "note pad" change the resolution setting [use lower resolutions first and see how you computer handles it.]

    bb_wid = 2560;

My rig is respectable, not high end anymore by any stretch. Smile  My monitor maxes out at 1920x1080, which is what I run it at.  It looks pretty darn good, but some of the WT videos make me drool.

I just noticed that your images are 1920x1080, did you crop them smaller or re-size them?

I tried changing my resolution to 2560x1440 but when I went into the game, it still maxed out at my monitors max res of 1920x1080. Sad

Did you manually change the resolution within the game with note pad [data\k42\loc_rus\config\config.engcfg] or just your pc screen resolution?

I'm using Postimage for the screenshots, which gives you an option for thumbnail screens for posting.

You can't make the game res high than your screen maximum resolution. I think it's a physical impossibility.

I have to say that 1920 X 1080 res is more than adequate. Beyond that point I higher res are more a matter of your imagination than what your eyes can really perceive. The difference is quality is not that much perceptible and you tend to pay for such res in decreased fps.

As for SF the game engine is 8 years old .WT is a recent one based on the latest version of the Cry Engine. The graphics don't shine but they're not that bad.

    I think it's a physical impossibility.

Some commentators also use display resolution to indicate a range of input formats that the display's input electronics will accept and often include formats greater than the screen's native grid size even though they have to be down-scaled to match the screen's parameters (e.g. accepting a 1920 × 1080 input on a display with a native 1366 × 768 pixel array). In the case of television inputs, many manufacturers will take the input and zoom it out to "overscan" the display by as much as 5% so input resolution is not necessarily display resolution.

In another simulator PC game, they are now using 4096x4096 pixels and in a PC game that came out in 2001.   Cool

Quote... It enables you to use Textures with HD resolutions (up to 4096 x 4096 pixels now) and true color.

I think you're still limited by your screen's maximum pixels though. In that 2001 game that they're playing at 4096x4096, they must have a 4k monitor to do that. If one is using a 1920x1080 display, anything set above that, I believe, just down-scales to match your monitors resolution.

SF does look pretty good, especially they newer modded models. It's definitely good enough for what it needs to do. Smile

Yes, the graphic's for SF are good, but I differ with you about the tanks not shining, with the right amount of tinkering of the game settings and resolution you can achieve those "Shiny Tanks".   cheers

Atlantis_Risen quote... they must have a 4k monitor to do that

No, they are using the same PC screens as we are using. Smile

This particular PC game came out in 2001, with the last version in 2006 and was limited to a resolution of 1024x1024 pixels.

Quote... These libraries provide an enhancement of the maximum texture size from the stock game’s limit of 1024x1024 pixels to a maximum of 4096x4096 pixels (with the possibility to use textures with a size of 2048x2048 pixels, too

Here is part of the "Read Me".

The mod consists of two mandatory parts:

1.) The high resolution Texture DLLs.  Enable this in order to use high resolution textures.
2.) True Color Texture Mod.   Enable the version corresponding to your game version.

Effect "Shiny Tanks" depends on the bump texture and setting in the Object Editor. I deliberately removed effect "shiny", coz I think it's not a good feature. Tanks in the field are covered with a dust. It does no shine anymore. But will73 likes shiny effect Smile So, I didn't change some textures.
Anyway, it's possible to make a patch, let's call him as it is: "Shiny tanks" and presented for the users.
I may explain a bit how to do that.

Oh, I've almost forgotten, SF has also a natural/itself effect "shiny". It should be as a black-white texture. Suppose, this is int_normap or ***_ref.
    Here's texture from BM-13: tref_bm13_ref_c
    Video Pz.IV C Tref_bm13_ref_c

Finally, there are the next textures available:
    - diffuse (main)
    - bump (bumping)
    - reference (shiny)

Agree, just like a new set of boots after a long hike, they are covered with mud, dust and other items, depending on the number of cows in the field. Laughing

That is a screenshot from one of my older setups of SF, that explains the "Shiny Tank" effect of the PZ III.

But having a choice would be a good idea for player's who do like such an effect in their game setup. Smile

The maximum texture size, which is available now in the game is 2048x2048. But there are a few very ones. Mostly all of them has size 1024x1024. It does resolution 2048x1152 is maximum for the current textures in the game. And to say the truth there is no diff. between 1152 and 2048. Well, may be in case if u close the left eye and imagine that SF has a very quality textures, then yes it does a diff. Very Happy

Yes, but why we need more screen resolution? I think to see more details on the picture. I.e. there were CD with 700Mb capacity, now DVD with 4,3Gb. It does that info has more details than before.
In our case, textures has 1024x1024 pixels. So, why we need more resolution on the screen, i.e. 2024x2024?
Details of the texture will be the same at resolution 1024x1024 or 2024x2024.
but in case, if texture has size 2024 than yes, we need our screen to setup at 2024 to see more details.

Well I'm confused. silent I've been reading a bit about displaying more than 1920x1080, and it doesn't seem possible. Even if you force a higher res with a video card utility program, the monitor just down-scales it to be 1920x1080 anyway. In fact the image can look worse doing that because of the down-scaling.

    As discussed here:

I went through some screenshots from one of my old setups that have the dates of 2008-2013 on them and found some more "Shiny Tanks" other than from the mission I ran today with an old SF setup. Seems that most of the tanks and vehicles were fresh from the factory during those early battles/missions and came without a dent or scratch on them. LoL  Laughing

But one of the early mods for the game which cured the "Shiny Tanks" and which I still have is the "Muddy Dirty PzIV textures mod" and it is dated 12-2-08.

Texture resolution and screen resolution is two completely different things. And screen resolution can never ever been higher then the resolution of your screen. Its possible to force a game use a higher one but because the screen cant use more pixels it will not make a difference. Its physical Impossible!

Texture resolution however can always be changed. Higher resolution on textures means less blurry details and in sf most tank textures are using 2048x2048, it can use 4096x4096 (i have tested and it works perfect) it can probably use bigger ones too but need testing. And the difference between 1024 and 2048 is huge! Specially at higher screen resolution because of the bigger picture. And to make it more interesting. Mip maps! It works as 3D model lods but is for textures. So those with problem with blurry textures have a problem with the settings ie its using a lower mip map then the standard one. And then it doesnt matter what screen resolution you are using!

Donken... Thank you for the explanation. My understanding from a quote and example from at the other site is that, if one aircraft rivet is one pixel or dot, with the resolution mod these same aircraft rivets are now 4 pixels with the increased resolution. Because as you say, you really can't change a PC screen's resolution.
