    Tanks in the movies 119930363
    Tank Sherman M4A3-76
Fury Official Trailer #1 (2014) starring Brad Pitt, Shia LaBeouf and directed by David Ayer
April, 1945. As the Allies make their final push in the European Theatre, a battle-hardened army sergeant named Wardaddy commands a Sherman tank and her five-man crew on a deadly mission behind enemy lines. Outnumbered and out-gunned, and with a rookie soldier thrust into their platoon, Wardaddy and his men face overwhelming odds in their heroic attempts to strike at the heart of Nazi Germany.
Release Date: 14 November 2014 (USA)

Here's a screenshot from the teaser:

I think this table with notes will be good for the Western Front!

The acting and the plot look like melodramatic BS. I suppose I'll watch it for the tanks; especially as Tiger 131 has a supporting role, even tho we just KNOW already that the gutsy Yanks will triumph, even against superior numbers, better tanks etc, in between making deep, meaningful statements which encapsulate the essence of the true warrior (yawn).

This one's still my favourite, I'll take weirdness over melodrama, any day.

Watched it and I must say I enjoyed it. A tank version of the Der Fliegende Hollaender. It was interesting also to hear the sounds of the engines, tracks and guns/MGs in the film. For once a Soviet film that doesn't portray its soldiers as tireless, party-faithful ,socialist heroes defenders of the toiling masses...

Will be looking forward to seeing "Fury".

A few screens I made from the 1950 movie "They Were Not Divided"... that had used a real Tiger & Panther tank in making the film.

Movie "Defiance". This is a very interesting film abt Jewish squad who fought against occupants.
Jewish brothers in Nazi-occupied Eastern Europe escape into the Belarussian forests, where they join Russian resistance fighters and endeavor to build a village in order to protect themselves and about 1,000 Jewish non-combatants.

LOL, why don't you Brits make some movies the way you want them to come out? Then we Yanks could whinge on about how the "keep calm and carry on", stiff upper lipped Brits stop to brew tea at every opportunity in the middle of a battle. Why should you Brits get do all the whining?

War movie-making without excess Holywood melodrama (that appears to dominate 'Fury') can be done, and has been, with reasonable success. To illustrate a few of the tank-featuring examples:
    A Bridge Too Far

    The Bridge at Remagen

In the second example, it's significant that the US soldiers are not Hollywood stereotypes who are primarily vehicles for stars to strut their stuff. And the Germans are not just annonymous targets which fall when hit and display the tactical finesse of Space Invaders.

I've found two trailers of the movies:
    Tobruk

    El Alamein 1942

There are no tanks, but it`s a very dramatic story abt life of soldiers.

Up yours is the oral equivalent of giving somebody the middle  finger ( or 2 fingers as the British do)...  Shocked

Personally I found Kelly's Heroes to be a turkey but it's my opinion... The Beast of War on the other hand I really liked...

I've seen Kelly's Heroes and I agree with you. I've not seen The Beast of War but the trailer makes it seem a bit overheated like Oliver Stone's Apocalypse Now.

Beast of War let's face it is an anti Soviet film. It was made obviously during the Soviet intervention in Afghanistan and Hollywood being Hollywood the ideology permeates the film including portraying the Afghani mujahedeen in a favourable light( that was before 9/11) while the Soviets are just ruthless and inhumane ( which they often were). I liked the plot but disliked the idea of the young Soviet prisoner becoming pro mujahedeen and turning against his compatriots. I may be viscerally anti communist but I dislike the so-called religion of peace even more.... The acting is not bad with Jason Patric and George Dzundza, the tank is interesting( T-62) and what the scenery is spectacular( it was shot in Israel).... Regretfully very few films were made about the Korean war although it would have given interesting tank battle scenarios...

Is Pitt's tank a 17 pdr Firefly? I don't think the Americans equipped their tanks with 17 pdrs. Only 1 in 4 British tanks had it by war's end.

No, its an M4A3 76 HVSS or M4A4 76 HVSS

A firefly looks very different, completely different turret and gun =)

I watched Fury last evening. Pretty good movie except for the idea that a German infantry battalion would continue to suicidally attack a disabled tank instead of bypassing it, or attacking from the rear when the turret was turned away.
